He is professor of Medieval History and Teaching of History at the Faculty of Education, University of Bologna. He is a founder and coordinator of the “Committee for Italian Studies and Editions of Sources Legislation” and member of the “Deputation of history homeland for the provinces of Romagna” and the “Provincial Deputation Ferrara history homeland”. In Bologna is the promoter of the “Passamano per San Luca - Le radici per volare” (A passing from hand to hand for St. Luke -  The roots to fly), an events concerning the dissemination of history.
Author of several books, has coordinated the publication of the "Bibliography Statutaria Italiana" in collaboration with the Library of the Senate.
